The Buzz, October 25 Edition
Hello, and welcome to the October 2025 edition of the Buzz, your monthly dose of news from the Organic Sector and beyond.
It’s that time of the month again, and I’m pleased to share an update from the OANZ Board and wider organic sector. Thank you to everyone who attended our AGM last month. It was great to connect, reflect on our progress, and discuss opportunities ahead.
Since the AGM, Rob Simcic has stepped down as Chair due to health reasons, though we’re pleased he’ll remain on the Board. I’ve taken on the role of Interim Chair and want to acknowledge Rob’s dedication and insight over the past year, which has guided OANZ through an important period of change.
Thanks also to everyone who joined our SFFF project webinars. This series marked a key milestone in shaping the future of our sector—special thanks to Tiffany for her leadership and to all who contributed feedback. We may not all agree on the next step, but we agree that change is needed.
OANZ currently has funding through December 2025, so securing resources to continue our advocacy and retain our CEO beyond next year is critical. Tiffany has led an underfunded organisation to deliver major campaigns and real progress for organics. Whether we maintain this momentum depends on funding and sector decisions in the months ahead.
If you haven’t yet, please read our 2025 Impact Report. It’s inspiring to see what our small team has achieved.
The Select Committee has recently released its report on the Gene Technology Bill, and OANZ is reviewing it carefully with our expert advisors. We are ready to respond and will keep you informed as updates come through.
Finally, if you value our work to protect and grow organics in Aotearoa, please consider becoming a member or making a donation. Every contribution strengthens our voice for a better organic future.
Ngā mihi nui,
Noel Josephson – Interim Chair
