A Milestone Moment for Organics at Parliament
On Tuesday, 4 June, OANZ had the honour of launching the 2025 Organic Sector Market Report in the Grand Hall of Parliament, a fitting venue to celebrate a sector that is quietly but powerfully reshaping the future of food and farming in Aotearoa.
Set beneath the high ceilings and columns of the Grand Hall, the event brought together leaders from across the organic sector, government, iwi, and primary industries. Surrounded by stunning seasonal florals and fresh organic produce, beautifully styled by Dirt Studio, the launch was a moment to reflect on the strength, growth, and potential of organics in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Our CEO, Tiffany Tompkins, opened the event by unveiling headline findings from the report: the organic sector is now valued at over $1 billion, with exports up 45% since 2020. She called for greater investment, clear policy backing, and support for consumer education to ensure this momentum continues.
We were joined by MPs Barbara Kuriger (National) and Steve Abel (Greens), both vocal supporters of a thriving, GE-free organic future for Aotearoa. Their presence highlighted the growing cross-party recognition that organic agriculture holds significant economic, environmental, and social value.
The evening also featured thoughtful remarks from gold sponsors and partners:
Ceres Organics, long-standing organic pioneers,
AsureQuality, supporting assurance and trust in organics,
Kete Ora Trust, promoting organic innovation and education,
and Rob Small (Ngāpuhi), representing our Tiriti partner, Te Waka Kai Ora, with a powerful reminder of the whakapapa of the land and the role of mātauranga Māori in shaping an organic future.
The atmosphere was celebratory, with a room full of people committed to the kaupapa of organics, sharing food, ideas, and a common purpose. And yes, the organic wine was flowing, thanks to our generous sponsors.
To our sponsors, thank you.
This launch was only possible with your support and commitment to a stronger organic future. Your leadership is helping to elevate organics to the place it deserves — not just on our plates, but in national policy, investment conversations, and international trade strategies.
