[WATCH] VOTE ORGANIC WEBINAR SERIES: 2026 ELECTION

Hear directly from political parties about the future of organics in Aotearoa New Zealand.

What does the future of organics look like under different political parties? How will the next government support organic producers, protect market access and our GE-Free future, address regulatory barriers and strengthen New Zealand's food and farming systems?

As New Zealand approaches the 2026 General Election, Organic Aotearoa New Zealand (OANZ) is bringing these conversations to the forefront through our Vote Organic Webinar Series.

In a series of interviews with political representatives, we are exploring party positions on issues that matter to the organic sector, giving our members, growers, businesses, and the wider public the opportunity to hear directly from those shaping policy.

The conversations explore the opportunities and challenges facing organics, including government support, organic sector development, gene technology, regulatory settings, exports, environmental sustainability and the future of New Zealand's food system.

OANZ is politically neutral and engages constructively with all parliamentary parties. Our aim is to ensure the organic sector's voice is heard and that voters have access to information to make informed decisions.

Watch the interviews below; we'll add more recordings as the series progresses.

In conversation with OANZ, Hon Andrew Hoggard discussed ACT's approach to organics, government investment, regulation and gene technology. Key topics included ACT's position on not having a dedicated Minister for Organics, the role of government in supporting sector growth, and the importance of reducing barriers rather than providing direct funding to individual industries. He also discussed gene editing, the potential for more proportionate compliance requirements for smaller producers, and the principle that farmers should be free to choose how they farm.

Steve Abel discussed the Green Party's vision for organics and its role in a more sustainable and resilient food system. Key topics included stronger government advocacy for the organic sector, the proposed $150 million Fair Food Fund to support smaller-scale food producers, and organics' role in New Zealand's international food export identity. He also expressed explicit support for protecting the organic sector's GE-free status, alongside discussion on agricultural policy as a public health issue, freshwater protection, biodiversity and long-term ecosystem health.
