Silver Sponsor Spotlight: BioGro NZ on Values, Vision, and Action

Championing Integrity in Organics: A Conversation with BioGro NZ

As we launch the 2025 Organic Market Report, we’re proud to be backed by organisations that share our vision for a resilient, regenerative food system. One of those longstanding champions is BioGro New Zealand—Aotearoa’s leading organic certifier and a silver sponsor of this year’s report.

BioGro's support signals more than financial backing. It reflects a deep, values-driven commitment to building an organic sector that is transparent, accessible, and future-focused. We sat down with the BioGro team to talk about what drives their work, how they’re evolving, and what they want to see in the next chapter of organics in Aotearoa.

Grounded in Values

At the heart of BioGro’s work are four clear values: integrity, transparency, sustainability, and community.

“Everything we do is grounded in these principles,” the team says. “We’re passionate about protecting the land, supporting organic producers, and growing a strong, trusted organics sector for Aotearoa. That means helping connect consumers with genuine, certified organic products they can trust.”

It’s not just talk. These values are lived daily through strict international certification standards, robust education and advocacy work, and meaningful partnerships that uplift the sector as a whole.

BioGro’s mission is to enable a sustainable and ethical future for producers and consumers.

Walking the Talk

BioGro’s commitment is evident in both its practical systems and national leadership. Their certification pathways are designed to support producers through what can be a complex and technical journey, especially for exporters navigating multiple international markets.

“We’re here as mentors, not just regulators,” they explain. “And we’re proud to stand up on critical issues—whether it’s campaigning against the GE Bill, or pushing for policies that protect organic producers and the environment.”

Through collaboration with groups like Fonterra, OANZ, and government agencies, BioGro is helping make organics not just an alternative, but a visible, accessible, and viable first choice.

Designing for Access and Inclusion

One of the most exciting updates is BioGro’s focus on accessibility. A newly designed website is in the works, aimed at helping more producers find clear information, understand what’s involved in certification, and connect with the wider organic community.

“Certification can feel daunting at first. We’re building better tools to make that journey easier—so more producers, especially small-scale and diverse operators, can come on board and thrive.”

Looking Ahead

When asked about their vision for the next five years, BioGro is clear: organics should be front and centre in Aotearoa’s sustainability, climate, and food security strategies.

“We want to see stronger government backing for organics—fairer policies, better funding, and more public education. Campaigns that celebrate organic producers and defend the sector from threats like genetic engineering are absolutely crucial.”

Their ultimate goal? That organics become the natural choice for consumers, businesses, and policy-makers alike.

As we publish the 2025 Organic Market Report, we acknowledge BioGro not just as a sponsor—but as a partner in pushing the sector forward. Their commitment to integrity, inclusivity, and advocacy strengthens our collective impact—and reinforces why organics matter more than ever.
